The Eclipse

I went outside about an hour ago and watched the earth take a bite out of the moon. It started as a little darkening at the upper left of the moon. In about ten minutes, there was a noticeable shadow line across the moons surface By 2:30 AM (PDT) there was a half-moon showing, and soon after, the curvature of the earth was strikingly apparent. Around this time, the reflected light of the sun was dimmed out to the point that the red light on the shadow part of the moon was visible. This light is caused by sunlight, refracted by the earth’s atmosphere, falling on the darkened surfaces of the moon.

At 2:50, the last of the sunlight blinked out.  By 3:00, nothing remained but a dull red disk.

I’m assuming it will come back.

And it seems to have come back after all.
