Travelin’
3 August 2007Well, I posted back in late July that we were on the road to the Autoharp Gathering, and, indeed we were. The Gathering was all that it usually is, if not more. Cathy Britell, Tom Schroder, John and Kathy Hollandsworth and Harvey Reed were our featured performers and workshop leaders. Pete Daigle, a very fine Autoharp luthier (maker) was in residence doing repairs, selling harps and teaching a maintenance workshop. With him were Polly, and Maxwell Smart, their Pug.
I enjoyed seeing all my friends and making new ones. It’s always a treat.
After the fest, on Sunday Morning, we left for Portland. We stopped at the Vancouver Elks Lodge to stay for a bit, but they were full, so we went off to a commercial campground for a few days. I drove down into Portland, OR to do errands… Pick up mail at General Delivery, get a new water pump for the trailer, etc.
On Tuesday, 7/31, we put the trailer in storage back at the Vancouver Elks (no longer full) and went off to Las Vegas by airplane, to attend some business meetings. Vegas was hot, the hotel was a dump, and we were overbooked with work, so there’s little to report other than a $35 win at the five dollar blackjack table.
Back to Portland on Friday, and back to the Vancouver Elks. It’s really cool that so many Elks Lodges have installed RV parking for traveling members. It’s usually between ten and fifteen dollars a night, compared to $30 for a commercial campground. A lot depends on what you’re looking for in a place to stay, but for a simple set of hookups, an Elks Lodge usually can’t be beat.
I’m dating this post August 3, so I can end it and go on. I’m really writing it on August 10.
