Beginnings of my latest Palm app
9 July 2007I was asked to show a screen shot of my latest Palm app… so here it is, in early development.

There are countless ways to find a satellite, mostly via web sites or PC applications. There’s one nice Java app for the purpose which is good for Linux and Macs. My feeling is that one may need this outside, when a computer is not available.
So far, this takes latitude, longitude and the latitude of a geosynchronous satellite, and returns the (true) azimuth, elevation and dish skew.
Lots of work remains, such as calculating and applying the magnetic variation, adding zipcode and city lookup tables, etc., but the key work is done. It calculates where the satellite is.
I need to find out how to distribute MathLib.

Hi Ed,
I’ve been watching you on the RV2waysat site and this interests me. My wife has an old “visor” by handspring. Could this be loaded onto it? This looks like the answer to a long standing prayer. Should be a lot easier than bringing up the computer, getting the numbers, writiing them down, then forgetting to take them outside when setting up the dish!
I’d like to give this a try. Thanks,
Dan Iverson
