Time Flies When You’re Having Fun
Well, as I wrote before, I was going to look for consulting work. They say to be careful what you wish for, as you might get it. I found work, all right, but not consulting work. I found a job. I’m not sure who “they” are, but “they” also say that 90% of the jobs out there are found by networking, rather than by answering ads, posting resumes, etc. While I was looking for consulting, one of my friends wrote to me and asked if I’d be interested in a job doing system administration at an Internet startup in West Hollywood.
An internet startup? In West Hollywood? What is this, 1998?
So I said I was interested, and I interviewed, was hired, and now I’m System Administrator at Geni, Inc. There are about 35 of us working there, building and operating the www.geni.com web offering. The work is interesting, the people are friendly, the food is great, and I consider myself to be in for the long haul.
In order to accomplish my daily participation, we had to consider how and where to live. We moved the trailer from Temecula to Van Nuys, and we’re staying at the Birmingham RV Park, a mostly residential RV park on Balboa Avenue. Two months ago, I didn’t even know where Van Nuys was. Today I live there.

Living in L.A. is a trip. I’ll be writing more about this in a future article.

It was nice visiting you in your new digs. The thing that makes your location better then so much of The Valley, is those huge shade trees that surround your trailer. It had to be 10 to 15 degrees cooler at your home, then at the hanger in Van Nuys, that’s less then a mile away. Good luck with your new job.
